border collies-A study carried out in 2014 compared the different dog breeds to know which one was selected in the first place.
The Border Collie turned out to be the first in a classification that analyzed the cost, intelligence, health, life expectancy and ease of grooming of each race.
The study was carried out by journalist David McCandless to be illustrated in his book Knowledge is Beautiful. In this book, David works with data and information turning them into graphs, infographics, and diagrams that are understandable, useful and visually very cool.
The data also indicated that the Bulldog is the most overrated breed because of its lack of intelligence, price and poor health.
Other dogs that have also been supposedly labeled as overrated are the German Shepherd, the Great Dane, and the St. Bernard.
Border Collies are intelligent, friendly, affectionate, energetic and surprising dogs, but this breed is not for everyone. However, for those people who have what it takes to own and care for a Border Collie, they will have a wonderful and loyal companion by their side.
If you give them exactly what they need, you will never have any problem with these dogs. However, if you do not know where you get, you do not give them enough exercise or you do not stimulate their mind to keep them occupied you will encounter a lot of problems with this breed.
Here is a quick outline of the border collie dog breed that you can use to help you decide whether to buy or adopt one of these dogs is a good idea for you and your family.
border collies Behavior and temperament
Border Collies are classified as the most intelligent dog breed in the world. They have incredible minds and can learn new tricks very quickly, no matter how complicated they are. Being the working dogs that they are, they really crave the stimulation they receive from training.
You could even say that these dogs are too smart. Some Border Collies owners have difficulties with them because of that intelligence. They simply cannot keep the dog under control or do not give it enough mental exercise, which is very important in this breed. So although owning an intelligent dog can be very fun, it is also something you need to know how to handle or else you will have in your hands a manipulative and disobedient factory of problems.
border collies Health
Although these dogs are susceptible to certain health problems such as hip dysplasia and epilepsy, they are generally healthy dogs. Their average life is 10 to 14 years, but if you feed your dog with high-quality food and provide them with the exercise and care they need they can live even longer. A well-balanced meal with all the necessary vitamins is important for your Border Collie.
border collies Toilet and change of hair
Like any other dog, Border Collies change their hair. The only thing to keep in mind about this breed is that its hair is of medium length so the hairs are much more noticeable in clothes and in certain furniture. They usually shed hair twice a year, but expect to see the hair at home throughout the year.
A good way to reduce the fall and keep the shine is to brush them at least once a week. This will help get rid of any loose hair that is hanging and will improve your dog’s hair coat.
Border Collies do not need to be bathed frequently. When you decide to give your dog a bath, be sure to use safe products for pets only. Human shampoos and soaps are not good for your hair.
border collies Exercise
Border Collies love to exercise and play. They need activities that force them to use their minds too. This is the reason why playing for something, playing with a Frisbee or doing canicross is very fun for them.
If you are thinking of being the proud owner of a Border Collie, be prepared to be outdoors for at least a couple of hours a day with him, or to work with him. Otherwise, it will not leave you alone and will continue to bother you to take it out or take care of it and not stop until you do.
If you are a little handyman you can also make some homemade toys yourself to work your wits.
Are Border Collies good pets?
Well, this question depends on the person who wants a Border Collie as their pet.
Are you looking for a really elegant dog that keeps you awake and fit? Do you want a dog that likes to exercise, play and learn new things every day?
However, if you are looking for a dog that feels silent all day to do nothing, just watch TV with you, then maybe another breed of dog is a better option for you.
